Kinnitty is the main gateway to the renowned Slieve Bloom Mountain Bike Trails, one of Ireland’s premier trail networks. Kinnitty village is the trailhead for the Kinnitty trails and the route passes the door of Ardmore Country House B&B.
Kinnitty Trailhead Facilities
All routes begin and finish at the Kinnitty Trailhead, located beside the Community Centre in the centre of the village where you’ll find

Kinnitty also has a coffee shop, grocery store parking, and two bike rental shops. Bike rental is available from Slieve Bloom Mountain Bike Centre which is located at the rear of Ardmore Country House Kinnitty. Bikes must be pre booked on line. Biker friendly accommodation is available at Ardmore Country House Kinnitty with off road parking bike wash, secure lock up store, if you have your own bike .To access the trails from Kinnitty follow the signed route from the village through the GAA pitch until you reach the single track trails which start in the woods beyond Kinnitty Castle .The trails climb through the forests surrounding Kinnitty Castle before reaching the open mountain slopes of the Slieve Blooms. Along the way you’ll enjoy flowing singletrack, technical descents, breathtaking views, and a landscape rich in history and folklore.
Keep an eye out for deer in the forests and perhaps even the legendary Phantom Monk, said to wander near Kinnitty Castle.
Kinnitty Mountain Biking Trails
The mountain biking trails take you through beautiful forest and open land with fantastic views over Kinnitty Castle and beyond. Forest road climbs lead you into tight twisty single track with loads of fast descents, ups and downs, tight turns and technical rocky bits, guaranteed to leave you smiling!
Blue Trail – 10 km
Perfect for beginners and families, with smooth flowing trails and gentle berms that build confidence.a children’s loop which is just beyond the Kinnitty GAA pitch. To access the trails from Kinnitty follow the signed route from the village through the GAA pitch until you reach the single track trails which start in the woods beyond Kinnitty Castle .
River Run Red – 23 km
A more technical route through forests and valleys, featuring the fast and rocky ASAP descent.
Mountain Top Red – 31 km
The signature Slieve Bloom experience. Climb to the mountain tops before enjoying the exhilarating Twist & Shout descent with over 40 flowing berms.
Black Trail (Advanced Option)
For experienced riders only, with steep drops, rock gardens, gap jumps, and demanding technical features.

Kinnitty is also one of Ireland’s hidden gems for road cycling.
Quiet roads, scenic mountain passes, and rewarding climbs make the area ideal for cyclists of every ability. Well-known climbs such as The Cut, Wolftrap, and Glendine Gap offer spectacular views across the Slieve Bloom Mountains.
For a real challenge, try the 78 km Cut Loop, with its sweeping climbs through forests, valleys, and blanket bogs. If you prefer a more relaxed ride, gentler routes through the foothills link Kinnitty with nearby villages and heritage sites, making them perfect for exploring the local countryside
