The History of Ardmore Country House
Ardmore Country House was originally built about 1840 by the local landlords the Bernard family who lived in Castle Bernard, now known as Kinnitty Castle Hotel.
For over a century, it served as the local doctor’s residence, initially rented by the council for just two shillings and six pence per year before being sold for fifteen shillings. It remained a doctor’s home until the mid-1950s.
Bringing our B&B in Kinnitty to Life
As a teacher in Mountmellick, Chris Byrne had long admired the property when passing on the drive home to her parents’ house, even though at the time it was painted purple and shaded by high evergreen trees! When the house went up for sale in 1993, her dreams of turning this historical building into a guesthouse in Kinnitty started to come to life.
Since then, restoring the house has been a labour of love, with ongoing improvements each year. Chris loves getting to share the beauty and history of her home with many people from all over the world.
