Kinnitty Pyramid
An unexpected site in the Irish countryside, the Kinnitty Pyramid is one of Ireland’s most curious and unusual historical landmarks. Built in 1834 over 4 years as a burial site for the Bernard family, it is a 4-sided, 30-foot replica of the Pyramid of Cheops. It was designed by Lt. Col Richard Wellesley Bernard after he had completed military service in Egypt and must have been very impressed with the huge pyramids he saw there so he decided to build his own. The pyramid, which you can view from the front of Ardmore Country House is located at the rear of St Finian’s church, and can be accessed via the church grounds on the Roscrea road.

Leap Castle known as Ireland’s most haunted castle now the home of Sean Ryan was a former castle of the O’Carroll chieftains until 1649. It was built circa 1250 by the O’Bannon’s. Amongst its many gruesome tales is the murder of Thaddeus O’ Carroll by his brother Teighe as he celebrated mass in the castle chapel.
